NEW- Trip Summary and Overview

The trip:
Welcome to The South Pole Expedition '98. This trip is a celebration of the 200th anniversary of the birth of parachuting begun in France on October 22, 1797. Our expedition has both a scientific purpose and a political signficance. SPE'98 is a gathering of skydivers from all race, creed, color and nationalities brought together for the purpose of bringing positive awareness to the plight of the Antarctic Environment. The trip involves 50 skydivers from all walks of life traveling to Antarctica for a skydive at the most remote of locations in the world - The South Geographical Pole. Follow along as we detail or preparations and training for our trip South!

Keep informed:
Hi Folks. As you all know by now, tragedy struck our community when Ray Miller, Steve Mulholland and Hans Rezac lost their life to the first freefall formation skydive at the South Pole. This accident had nothing to do with our project (it was operationally controlled and supported by a commerical operator), but we have analyzed this accident to avoid the problems that killed those 3 men. We have prepared an analysis of that accident for your review. We have also delineated the precautions (listed here) we have planned in order to avoid the problems they encountered that lead to the accident. Please follow along as we discribe our journey of adventure and learning into the harsh, beautiful and pristine "Last Continent".

"On every side of us are men who hunt perpetually for their personal Northwest Passage, too often sacrificing health, strength and life itself to the search; and who shall say they are not happier in their vain but hopeful quest than wiser, duller folks who sit at home, venturing nothing and, with sour laughs, deriding the seekers for that fabled thoroughfare?"
